Cancer is a fatal disease confronting human life in recent decades. Without any distinction of age, gender, caste, class or faith it comes to human beings and kills inch by inch. From the starting stage to till death it gives pain to the patient, family members, loved ones, doctors and all around. Physically the pain is unbearable, mentally it is depressing and looking forward to death, economically it drains all possible and available resources and socially people feel lonely fight of hidden aspirations though people come day after day to meet the person or family. If it is diagnosed in the initial stage, the person survives for years and very few for a longer duration; if not it is counting days or months. As we have witnessed during the treatment period the family goes through a lot of agony due to mental pain without being able to reconcile the fact that their loved one is going to die shortly and secondly the economic crunches of adjusting money for the costly treatment at least to reduce the pain till the person is alive and have the little satisfaction of treating the person till death. It is the story of every family; more pathetic of middle, lover middle and lower class people. It is unimaginable of those who are poor. They don’t mind begging any one even for a small amount in desperation. Soukya nidhi is set up in 2009 to support people suffering with Cancer specially the family members of Ursuline Franciscan Sisters and extends financial support. Apart from the direct help to the patient there will be extension programme under this fund. Every years 4 awareness programmes will be conducted on how to prevent cancer and how to diagnose in initial stage or such matters. We take the help of medical colleges in this regard.
